Runa Wolfden creates fantasy with a sense of theatre, abundance and unapologetic delight. Her illustrations transform familiar celebrations into scenes that feel larger, brighter and more enchanted than life, while never losing their warmth or humour. Working digitally, she builds each image through dramatic composition, luminous colour and richly layered detail. Runa is less interested in strict realism than in emotional impact, creating work designed to feel immersive, joyful and full of possibility. Living in York has deepened her fascination with places that seem to carry stories of their own. Her work reflects a belief that imagination should be generous, beauty should be joyful and there is rarely any harm in adding a little more gold. Away from illustration, Runa works with a local theatre group, helping to create sets and costumes. Her fascination with the way colour, light and scale can transform an ordinary space continues to shape the theatrical quality of her art.
